m-learning : learning in the palm of your hand
m-learning is a pan-European research and development programme. It is aimed at young adults, aged 16 to 24, who are most at risk of social exclusion in Europe. They have not succeeded in the education system, cannot read and write adequately and have problems with simple calculations except in familiar contexts. They are not currently involved in any education or training and may be unemployed, under employed, or even homeless.
We have developed learning methodologies and materials, spanning a wide range of gadgets and functions. Some are:
- XDA2 (PocketPC): We created a lot of browser based materials, some offline and some online. We used Flash, Javascript, Java, .NET and php
- P900 (Symbian): More browser based materials, using XHTML and php. Also J2ME (java) games to download
- phone games: Java games to download to your phone
- picture messaging: collaborative activities. Send a message from your camera phone and contribute to our website
- text messaging: SMS quizzes and awareness raising.
- community site: the mPortal is a web-based community site designed for the tiny screen
